Task force on local business tax & licensing simplification

The bill establishing a task force to evaluate and recommend legislation and options to continue local business tax and licensing simplification, HB 2959, passed the House of Representatives with a 93-4 vote last week. Before it passed, the sponsor amended the bill to include two additional city representatives on the task force. The bill now proposes a nine-member task force: three members representing business, five representing cities, and one from the Department of Revenue. While AWC still has concerns about the proposal, the amendment improves the bill.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration, and the Senate Trade & Economic Development Committee has already scheduled to hear the proposal on Wednesday, February 24 at 8 am.
