Requiring mandatory reporting of hazardous exposures for firefighters

On Thursday, February 11, the House of Representatives passed HB 2805, requiring mandatory reporting of hazardous exposures for firefighters. AWC believes legislation on this issue is premature as a working group of stakeholders established by the Legislature in 2015 did not reach consensus on a definition of hazardous exposure, mandating hazardous exposure reporting, or a database system to track such exposures. The final report was just issued on Monday, February 8. AWC has concerns about the current proposal moving through the Legislature and believes more stakeholder discussion is needed about the costs and benefits of this system before the bill is adopted by the Legislature.
