Bill would reduce the tax on recreational marijuana

Rep. Chris Hurst (D-Enumclaw) has introduced HB 2347, which would reduce the tax on useable marijuana, marijuana concentrates, and marijuana-infused products sold at recreational stores. Currently recreational marijuana is taxed at a rate of 37 percent. HB 2347 would decrease this tax to 25 percent.

AWC does not have a position on this bill but testified in the House Finance Committee on February 5 asking that the Legislature hold cities harmless if this legislation passes. Currently cities receive a share of the marijuana revenues, and we do not want to see this share decline. To learn more about the city share see here.

We will continue to follow the legislation as it moves through the Legislature.
