Affordable housing property tax exemption bills moving

After passing out of the Senate Human Services, Mental Health & Housing Committee, SB 6239 sponsored by Sen. Joe Fain (R-Auburn), moved another step further in the process and received a hearing in the Senate Ways & Means Committee. The bill would authorize an optional local property tax exemption for preservation of affordable housing. It must be moved from that committee by the end of the day on February 9. On that same date, the House companion bill will also need to move. HB 2544 from Rep. Noel Frame (D-Greenwood), is scheduled for hearing in the House Finance Committee on Friday, February 5.
