Sales tax holiday for back-to-school clothing and supplies

On February 4, the House Finance Committee will hear HB 1329, providing a sales-tax holiday for back-to-school shopping. The bill specifies that clothing priced under $100 and school supplies priced under $10 are exempt from sales tax on the second adjacent Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of every August. The bill requires the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Committee to study the economic impact of the sales tax holiday and present findings to the Legislature by December 1, 2015.

The bill does not yet have a fiscal note, and AWC has heard from cities with differing opinions on the bill.
