New proposal to reduce frequency of local sales tax changes

A new bill reducing the number of times per year a local sales tax may be changed, HB 2565, will be heard in the House Finance Committee on Tuesday, February 2 at 3:30 pm. Although the proposal comes with a new bill number, it is identical to previous bills introduced. Currently, local governments may change their rate four times each year: January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. This bill would eliminate the option of changes on October 1. Since local governments seldom make sales tax changes on October 1, AWC has taken a neutral position.
