Prohibiting consideration of traffic tickets issued during law enforcement officer performance reviews

On Monday, January 25, at 1:30 pm the House Labor & Workplace Standards Committee will hear HB 2399. The bill prohibits consideration of the number of traffic tickets issued, or the amount of penalties assessed from tickets, in a law enforcement officer’s performance review, evaluation, rating, assessment, salary, promotion, or assignment.

While AWC would not advocate for traffic ticket quotas, we have some concerns about how this bill could be interpreted in the extreme, e.g. evaluating the performance of a traffic officer that has refused to write any tickets. Please contact AWC’s Candice Bock if you have feedback about how this bill would impact your evaluation process.
