Cities support police body-worn cameras at hearing

The House Judiciary Committee heard HB 2362 addressing police body-worn cameras on Thursday, January 14. Cities generally support this bill and its efforts to address public records implications around camera video. Cities and other speakers asked that the bill be amended to do more to protect privacy. However, the Allied Daily News representative indicated that they were supportive of the bill in its current form and didn’t expect to be supportive of additional changes. We expect a version of the bill to move out of committee.

AWC would like to thank the following individuals for taking time to come to Olympia to testify on the bill:

  • Olympia Mayor Pro Tem Nathaniel Jones
  • Poulsbo Council member Jim Henry
  • Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey
  • Bellingham Senior Assistant City Attorney James Erb
  • Olympia Assistant City Attorney Annaliese Harksen
  • Seattle Assistant City Attorney Mary Perry
