Contact Senators Murray and Cantwell now, ask them to help stop the Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act

The Permanent Internet Tax Freedom Act (PITFA) has been inserted at the eleventh hour into the unrelated Customs Reauthorization Conference Report legislation. PITFA would make the ban on local and state taxation of internet access permanent. AWC opposes any permanent ban to city taxing authority, like PITFA. No such legislation should be considered without a broader discussion of eFairness (previously called Marketplace Fairness – requiring sales taxes on internet purchases to be collected).

The Senate will consider the conference report shortly.

Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell support the Marketplace Fairness Act. Please reach out immediately and urge them to support removing the PITFA language from the customs conference report. Let them know that cities will continue to insist that any changes to PITFA must be coupled to an eFairness solution.
