Public records survey coming in early November

Due to changes in the nature and volume of public records requests, the 2015 Legislature asked the State Auditor's Office (SAO) to study public records and estimate the cost of providing paper and electronic records. The study will be conducted at no cost to local governments and state agencies.

In order to collect information about the nature, volume, and the associated costs of public records requests, SAO is preparing a survey of every state agency and local government organization in Washington. By responding to the survey, governments will help SAO provide relevant information to the Legislature about the impact of public records requests on public agencies.

The State Auditor’s Office plans to release its public records survey the first week of November. AWC is asking all cities to take part in this important study. Expect to receive information and more details on the survey later this month.
