AWC President Paul Roberts releases statement in response to Governor’s direction to the Department of Ecology on water quality

Governor Inslee announced Friday that he directed the Department of Ecology to provide him with a new set of options to address the water quality rules commonly referred to as the fish consumption rule. He declared that he needed to do this, rather than move forward with the rule supported by AWC and other local governments, because the Legislature failed to advance a proposal to strengthen state tools to address water pollution.

In response, AWC President Paul Roberts indicated our intentions to continue to work towards a balanced solution to this problem: “We share the Governor’s commitment to clean water and his disappointment that efforts to make progress on this issue were stymied in the most recent legislative session. We will continue to work closely with the administration to help them develop water quality regulations that protect our citizens and are achievable by our communities.”
