Sunnyside mayor to serve as president of Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors

Olympia – The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) announced that Sunnyside mayor Jim Restucci was elected President of the Board of Directors, June 23, at its Business Meeting in Everett.

“Strong cities are the key to a great state, “said Restucci. “I am honored to serve as AWC President and carry our message to the governor and state legislature.”

Restucci has served on the AWC board since 2012. He was initially elected to the board to represent District 4, which includes 19 cities in Kittitas County and Yakima County. His term as president lasts one year.

Restucci, now in his fourth term as mayor, began serving on the Sunnyside city council in 2004. He is a 20-year veteran of the military.

The AWC Board of Directors is the association’s governing body. The board is comprised of 25 directors, 23 of whom are mayors or city councilmembers from Washington cities or towns, and two non-elected city officials who also serve as the president and past president of the Washington City/County Management Association.

AWC’s mission is to serve its members through advocacy, education and services. Founded in 1933, AWC is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan corporation that represents Washington's cities and towns before the state legislature, the state executive branch, and with regulatory agencies. Membership is voluntary. However, AWC consistently maintains 100 percent participation from Washington’s 281 cities and towns.
